Preschool Assistant Teacher (Part Time)

Position Description: Assist the lead teacher in all areas of the classroom in providing for the physical and emotional needs of children from 15 months to 6 years of age. Work with the lead teacher to meet the developmental needs of the children; and plan and carry out lesson plans (Montessori and group lessons). Most of all, make the education experience fun and rewarding for our students.

Job Requirements: Ability to observe, see, hear and respond to children’s needs; sit on the floor and/or crouch to children’s height for extended periods; the ability to determine each child’s cognitive, social and developmental needs and communicate effectively with the lead teacher and parents; the ability to complete assessments on each child and use assessments to guide curriculum; and the ability to handle unexpected situations that may arise in a calm and professional manner.

Qualifications: A successful candidate with have a passionate belief in the mission, values and educational method of this Montessori House; be able to communicate with the lead teacher and parents; be a team player and work with the lead teacher to help each child meet his or her goals; the ability to work with each child; current authorization to work in the United States; and the ability to pass a background check. Previous experience in a preschool classroom is highly desired; BA/BS (in any field) is highly desired; preschool teacher certification is highly desired (we will be willing to train the right candidate).
